We are based in Weipa, QLD on the West Coast of Cape York Peninsula. 

Weipa is a special part of Australia where all year round there is always amazing fishing to be had. 

Opening of the season begins in March of each year. 

March - June is prime time to target the estuaries and run off barramundi. If the Estuary isn't your thing this time is also great blue water fishing for schooling species such as golden snapper, cobia, tuna, Spanish mackerel & trevally to name just a few. 

June - September the Cape York Easterly trade winds kick in and push offshore allowing for great coastal exploring along the local flats for blue bone tuskfish, queenfish, slate bream, permit and a huge range of highly sort after light tackle sports fish.  

September - December as temperatures start to rise the fishing turns it on. September - October 7th (closure of the barramundi fishing season) the barramundi fishing heats up with large fish starting to push into the river systems in preparation for breeding season. When the barramundi season closes this marks the start of the wet season build up glass off's and so starts the blue water fishing all over again. 

Yes, we require a 10% deposit in order to secure your selected date/s. This deposit is fully refundable if canceled 14 days prior to your departure date. If failed to cancel with 14 days notice, we will reschedule your booking for the next available date that suits both the client and our schedule.

Please BYO - long sleeve light weight shirt, wide breamed hat, sunscreen and water bottle. Our guides will supply you with cold drinking water for any water refills, additional sunscreen and a light lunch (sandwiches with a small cake or pastry). Please bring any snacks or children's food requirements.

Rough Edges Charters can supply any and all tackle required on a replace if lost, damaged or broken. We do recommend you bring your own estuary / barramundi rods for flicking and casting. though we can drop by the local Weipa Tackle World before any charters to assist with purchasing any tackle or rod combos you may like to test.
